Study skills allow students to work effectively
There are skills for studying that influence your performance. When you know what kind of studying works for you, the task doesn’t feel as demanding and gives you energy to carry on. Without a proper knowledge of methods for effective studying and learning, concentration may also become more difficult: you get nothing done, just frustrated by the subject or with yourself for not “getting it”. If this is a temporary problem then there is no need to worry. However, if the problems with learning seem to be permanent or occur frequently, there are ways in which you can help yourself and guidance is available.
You are not born with good studying skills; as with any life skill, they are learned by practice. Study skills include many different techniques, your reasons for studying (what does the subject mean to you, what motivates you to study), approaches to learning, problem solving skills and social skills, like getting your point across in conversation.

Everyone can study and learn studying skills. There are many ways to achieve this, such as studying together and sharing practical tips and methods with one another. One good way of learning more about studying skills is to get familiar with different learning styles and habits. Explore what works for you! Focus also on time management and planning beforehand: take out all the required equipment at the beginning so you don’t have to look for it in the middle of doing the task. A calendar, so that you can plan your studying and avoid overloading your day, or timing yourself for example 25 minutes intensive studying followed by a five-minute pause, might help your concentration. Studying skills are affected by the wellbeing of the whole body and mind: being tired, hungry and frustrated makes it hard to learn new information. If you feel like you’d need some help with discovering and developing suitable methods of studying, ask help from a teacher, study counselor, special needs teacher or the school’s study psychologist. They can help solve the issue and they may also arrange for you to take a test for learning disabilities if appropriate.
There are as many different learning styles as there are different learners.
Think of what kind of learner you are. What motivates you and what kind of environment do you study best in: do you like to study alone, with a friend or in a group? Home, library, at a café or someplace else? Do you concentrate better in silence, with some chit-chat in the background or by listening to music? What time of the day would you find it easiest to concentrate? Do eating habits, sleeping and exercising affect your concentration?
Your performance in your studies is not just up to you. A good teacher should understand what the base knowledge of the students attending the class is, and the differences in their interests, needs and learning styles. Studying environment has a huge effect on different types of learners. Study environment needs to be safe for everyone; psychologically, physically as well as socially. No bullying of any kind should be tolerated. The interaction between the staff, students and study environment affects your motivation and the progress of your studies. Though you might not need a pause at some point, someone else might need it to progress effectively. Sometimes you need to study when you are not in the mood for it but in an ideal situation learning creates new motivation where the learning of new things is rewarding in itself. It’s not just about getting good grades or passing; it’s also about learning to enjoy learning.

Remote working demands taking care of personal wellbeing
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased remote working for both employed and students. Remote working or teleworking can indeed increase the efficiency of work when environmental disturbances are at a minimum; but working alone requires a lot of individual determination. When working from home, it is very important to take care not only of the amount of work, but also remember taking breaks. If you sit at the computer for several hours, the quality of work and the vitality of the brain decreases. Many remote workers struggle with how much they can demand of themselves for things to get done, but it’s just as important to give yourself mercy if the work does not proceed the way you want them to. By pausing work, for example, for a bit of fresh air, light stretching or just letting your mind wonder; and especially taking a decent lunch break and drinking water, you stimulate blood circulation and support endurance. Daily outdoor activities, for example in the morning or at lunchtime and in the evening again, also help falling asleep at night, So the next morning - when work calls again - you’ll get easier up.
